In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on Western North Carolina, local musicians and institutions are urging the community to come together and support relief efforts. The catastrophic flooding has left thousands of residents without power, cellular service, and access to fresh water, particularly in the hardest-hit mountain communities.
As the region grapples with the aftermath of the storm, North Carolina’s vibrant music scene is stepping up to make a difference. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) has announced that it will donate 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales for performances from September 26 through October 31 to the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the American Red Cross. Additionally, local businesses such as Harris Teeter, Manolo’s Bakery, Higher Grounds, Artisen Gelato, and Tika’s Cake House are contributing a portion of their sales to storm relief efforts in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.
“We are all part of this community, and it’s our responsibility to help our neighbors in their time of need,” said a representative from UNCSA. “By coming together and supporting these relief efforts, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Helene.”
“Anyone who knows anything about me knows what North Carolina and specifically this area in the mountains means to me personally as well as creatively,” Eric Church, said while urging donations to the Red Cross, as reported by Spin. “While we’re still gauging the extent of destruction and harm, our hearts remain with the people, and our focus is on helping them,”
