Martin LX1 Little Martin Review

9.1

The little Martin Acoustic Guitar known as the Martin LX1 is more than the average 3/4 scale length, travel size acoustic guitars.  The little Martin Acoustic has a tone quality that provides a live sound that rivals the baby Taylor. For a cheaper alternative that doesn’t have a cheap sound, consider checking out our Epiphone DR100 review.

Martin LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar

Martin LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Mahogany pattern HPL (high pressure laminate) textured finish,
  • solid sitka spruce top
  • Rust Stratabond 3/4 scale neck
  • Chrome small-knob tuners
  • Morado or Rosewood fingerboard options

As a great travel guitar built at 3/4 size, the Martin LX1 Little Martin offers children, travelers and players with small hands an opportunity to get a sweet little Martin guitar at an affordable price. Though the guitar in this Jasmine S35 review is bigger than the Little Martin, it’s an even cheaper alternative if you’re concerned about budget.

Realizing that this guitar is not comparable to the Martin dreadnought and classical guitars that cost quite a bit more, I find the Martin LX1 Little Martin to be an ideal guitar for the serious traveling troubadour.  The tone is nice for a little guitar that fits with the Martin standards. For an even more travel-friendly Martin guitar, the model we feature in our Martin Backpacker Guitar review has a unique, slim shape to it.

PROS
  • There aren't too many guitars in the Martin line that are as affordable as the Little Martin, which makes it a nice guitar for anyone that enjoys the brand
  • The small body is perfect for traveling musicians, children, and players with small hands
  • Rich and bluesy tone for a guitar of this size
CONS
  • The tone is as one would expect of a little guitar, it lacks some balance on the low end
  • The die cast tuners are not very impressive in quality even though they look okay to the eye
