Pink Floyd fans are in for a treat as a breathtaking new 4K trailer for the restored version of “Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII” has been revealed. The iconic 1972 concert film, set in the ancient Roman amphitheater of Pompeii, has undergone a meticulous restoration process, promising an unparalleled audiovisual experience when it hits theaters worldwide on April 24, 2025.
The restoration, led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, involved a painstaking frame-by-frame process using the original 35mm cut negative, which was recently discovered in the band’s archives. “The newly restored version presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after,” Topham explained.
Audiophiles will be thrilled to learn that renowned producer Steven Wilson has crafted new 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes, enhancing the film’s sonic landscape while preserving the authenticity of the original recordings. Wilson, a lifelong Pink Floyd fan, described the project as “an honor to remix the soundtrack to accompany Lana Topham’s incredible restoration.”
The film captures Pink Floyd at a pivotal moment in their career, just before the release of their seminal album “The Dark Side of the Moon.” It features powerful performances of tracks like “Echoes,” “A Saucerful of Secrets,” and “One of These Days” in the hauntingly beautiful, audience-free setting of Pompeii.
Following its theatrical run, “Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII” will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and as a 2xCD and 2xLP set from May 2, 2025. For the first time, fans will have the opportunity to own the full concert as a standalone live album, mixed by Steven Wilson.
This restoration not only breathes new life into a classic piece of rock history but also introduces Pink Floyd’s groundbreaking artistry to a new generation of music lovers. As Nick Mason, Pink Floyd’s drummer, aptly put it, “Pink Floyd: Live At Pompeii is a rare and unique document of the band performing live in the period prior to The Dark Side Of The Moon.”
Tickets for the theatrical screenings are now available, with pre-orders open for the home release formats. This revitalized “Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII” promises to be an essential addition to any music enthusiast’s collection, offering an immersive journey into one of rock’s most iconic performances.
