Doja Cat released her 2nd studio album “Hot Pink” in 2019 and at first “Say So” was not the first choice for a single for Doja Cat and her team, it wasn’t even the second choice.. It wasn’t until 2020 when social media influencer, Haley Sharpe, used the song in a viral TikTok video, the the fifth single from Hot Pink got the exposure that has launched it to international success.
Following the viral TikTok video, “Say So” was remixed and re-released with the help of guest collaborator, Nicki Minaj. The first collaboration between Doja Cat and Minaj has earned the song a number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100. Now the song has become Gold certified (or higher) in 12 countries and has earned Doja Cat and her production crew, including famed producer Dr. Luke, a nomination for The Grammy’s Record of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance as well as a nomination for Song Of The Year at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
The sexy groove based song has an equally sexy music video to accompany it. During a normal year, “Say So” would have been the song of the summer and would have been blasting from the stereos of cars pulling up to the beach. Fortunately, the song enjoyed global success during an odd year. With the timeless production and organic quality to the guitar groove that carries the song, it seems like this song might end up being played at weddings and Top 40 radio for a long time to come.
