The Cure’s Eco-Friendly Comeback: New Vinyl Release Supports Climate Charity

After a 16-year hiatus, The Guardian reports that The Cure is set to release two new songs, “And Nothing Is Forever” and “I Can Never Say Goodbye,” on eco-vinyl on October 1, marking a significant milestone for fans and the music industry alike. This release not only satisfies the band’s devoted fan base but also demonstrates their commitment to environmental sustainability.

The use of eco-vinyl and sustainable materials in the production of the single, titled Novembre: Live in France 2022, aligns with the band’s values and sets a positive example for the music industry. The records and packaging are made from highly recyclable plastics and other sustainable materials, reducing the environmental impact of traditional vinyl production.

The profits from the single will benefit Brian Eno’s climate charity, Earth Percent, which supports vital climate projects. Eno praised the band’s generosity, stating that their support is “a powerful example of how the music community can work together to build a better world.” The charity’s initiatives focus on addressing the climate crisis, and the profits from the single will contribute to these efforts.

The release of these live recordings is a precursor to the band’s upcoming album, Songs of a Lost World, which has been in the works since 2008. The new songs have become staples of the band’s setlists, and their formal release is a promising sign for fans eagerly awaiting the new album.

The production of the single on eco-vinyl is made possible by Naked Record Club’s use of injection-molding machines, which significantly reduce energy consumption compared to traditional steam presses. This innovative approach to vinyl production not only benefits the environment but also sets a new standard for the music industry.

Pitchfork quotes Eno from a press release, “I’d like to thank The Cure and NAKED Record Club—both true innovators—for their generous support of vital climate projects through the release of The Cure – Novembre: Live In France 2022. It’s a powerful example of how the music community can work together to build a better world.”
