Squier Stratocaster Review

8.9

Fender makes great instruments and their bass guitars and electric guitars really stand out.  This company created some of the most famous tones in music including the tones of the Fender Stratocaster.  This guitar is the intro to the Stratocaster and leaves room for upgrading as you go!

For many players, an introductory of best electric guitars comes in the form of a Fender Squire.  There are more than a few different squire models and some are better than others, especially when searching for the best guitars.  This model is one of the better ones as far as what you get for the cost.  Its very affordable, stylistically versatile and part of the trusted Fender Brand.  The setup of three single-coil pickups creates a bright and bluesy tone that can be manipulated by the onboard tone controls.  It’s also a very good looking guitar and comes in a variety of finishes.

While there are more expensive and more sophisticated Stratocasters on the market, there also isn’t a need to break the bank if you are a beginner guitarist or just want to the signature Fender Stratocaster tone in your arsenal.  Even though this is an introductory level guitar for Fender, I know some amazing professional musicians that bought this affordable model as an auxiliary guitar for recording and some live work. If you want to add an acoustic guitar to your collection while sticking to the same price range, be sure to check our our Ibanez PC15 review.

Because of how Fender builds these guitars it’s very easy to replace parts and upgrade their guitars to get the exact sounds and tones you are looking for.  While a beginner does not have to go to this length, it’s nice to know that with the Fender Bullet Stratocaster, you have the option to upgrade parts as you get better at playing.

At its core, its is true to the Stratocaster brand that Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan made famous with it’s crisp bright and bluesy tones.  Don’t hold back from exploring different genres with this electric guitar either.  I’ve heard some serious funk played on a Stratocaster, even reggae!  It’s very versatile.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Does this guitar come with strings?

Yes, this guitar comes with 9 gauge strings.  I suggested upgrading to 11 gauge strings to help offset the shorter neck and help keep the guitar in tune for longer and make it easier to play.

Does this guitar include a whammy bar?

This guitar does not come with a whammy bar.  There are other models that do, and I don’t think it’d be worth the cost to try to add one to this guitar.

I would suggest this guitar for beginners mainly.  If an experienced player doesn’t own a Fender Stratocaster and wants to add that sound to their arsenal, there are some other guitars I’d suggest, but if you don’t want to spend too much and you are willing to upgrade the pickups and electronics, this is a great guitar that you can get the quintessential Fender Stratocaster tones from without breaking the bank.
