  • The surprise appearance comes just weeks before the release of Gilmour’s new solo album, Luck And Strange, which features a duet with Romany.

In a surprising turn of events, David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist of Pink Floyd, shocked patrons at the Neptune Inn in Hove, near Brighton, by joining his daughter Romany for an impromptu performance during the pub’s open mic night. The unplanned acoustic rendition of the Pink Floyd classic “Wish You Were Here” left the audience in awe, as they witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime moment from the rock icon.

The surprise appearance comes just weeks before Gilmour’s new solo album, Luck And Strange, is set to debut at #1 in the UK. This marks the guitarist’s first public performance in 8 years, with his last non-private, non-digital show taking place in 2016. Recently, Gilmour released a cover of “Between Two Points” with his daughter Romany, hinting at the musical collaborations to come.

Romany Gilmour, who was originally scheduled to perform at The Neptune’s open mic night, captivated the audience with her covers of Leonard Cohen songs and a preview of her upcoming solo material, tentatively titled “Lily Of The Roses.” As reported by Stereogum, rhe real surprise came when her father, David Gilmour, joined her on stage for a special duet, leaving pub patrons stunned by the intimate and unplanned acoustic performance.

As a local resident of Brighton and Hove for over two decades, Gilmour has a strong connection to the city, according to Loudersound. He even recorded some of his new album, Luck And Strange, in the area and recently finished rehearsals ahead of his upcoming concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Looking ahead, fans are eagerly anticipating the official release of Luck And Strange, which features the duet with Romany, “Between Two Points,” a cover of The Montgolfier Brothers. Goldradiouk reports that Gilmour’s upcoming tour is expected to include performances of beloved Pink Floyd tracks alongside his new solo material, with residencies planned at iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, and Rome’s Circo Massimo.
