Get ready for a unique cinematic experience as French electronic duo Daft Punk is set to appear in an upcoming LEGO film chronicling the life of Pharrell Williams, titled “Piece by Piece”. The biopic, directed by Grammy-winning documentarian Morgan Neville, will hit US cinemas on October 11, 2024, with a UK release date yet to be announced. Joining Daft Punk in this LEGO adventure are fellow music icons Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, and Timbaland. The film traces Williams’ early life in Virginia Beach through to his rise to fame, featuring a star-studded cast of LEGO figures.

MusicRadar reports that “Piece by Piece” is directed by Morgan Neville, a Grammy-winning documentarian known for his work on “20 Feet from Stardom” and “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”. Neville faced unique challenges in bringing Williams’ story to life using LEGO figures, particularly in recreating recording studios and iconic music equipment in brick form. “There are so many great characters, everybody from Snoop to Daft Punk, all these different people are amazing in Lego,” Neville said in an interview with Variety, highlighting the film’s creative approach to storytelling. The biopic had its world premiere at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, showcasing the innovative use of LEGO in chronicling the life of a music legend.
