  • It’s fun to play this UBass. It is compact and easy on the hands.
  • There is a unique tone to this bass ukulele that would be great for country music or bluegrass.
  • Not as versatile as some other bass ukuleles as the tone is so unique and particular.

Overview

The Kala Journeyman Acoustic Electric U-Bass is a beautiful Ukulele Bass that has the look of a violin or cello with it’s unique design with it’s two F-Holes set on a Mahogany body.

The UK-500B Piezo pickup captures the tone extremely well, offering both exceptional acoustic and electric tones.  With a standard bass tuning and a baritone range, the Journeyman is an excellent U-Bass.

With the Kala Journeyman U-Bass using silver-wound strings, this bass ukulele has the feel of a standard bass.  This features sets the Journeyman apart from some of Kala’s other bass ukuleles as many of their other models use polyurethane strings.

Overall, this is a solid Bass-Ukulele and offers nice variety to more traditional models.

Critic Consensus

This is a great UBASS so we’ve included it in discovering best bass ukuleles.  Kala really makes great Ukuleles in general and the Kala UBASS Journeyman Acoustic-Electric Ukulele Bass Guitar is no exception.

Features:

  • Mahogany Wood Back & Sides
  • Mahogany Wood Top
  • Cream Binding
  • Venetian Style Cutaway
  • Mahogany Neck
  • UK-500B Piezo Pickup
  • Padded Gig Bag
  • Built In Tuner

The Mahogany body has a classic look, but f-holes without the traditional cutaway really stands out and gives the Kala Journeyman U-Bass a vibe.

The tone on this U-Bass is unique as the natural reverb is different from most others.  The UK-500B Piezo pickup really brings the tone to life when amplified.

The feel of this bass is more like a traditional bass guitar.  The Silver-Wound strings provide that traditional feel while still doing a good job of holding tune.
