PRS SE A50E Review

Acoustic-Electric Guitar Features:

  • Solid Sitka Spruce top
  • Figured Maple back & sides
  • Fishman Gt1 electronics
  • PRS trademark bird inlays and headstock designs

PRS is not necessarily the brand that comes to mind when I think of acoustic guitars, until I really start to think of the designs of many of their great electric guitars.  With many of their guitars being incredible hollow body guitars with great acoustic sound accessible through their signature PRS electronics, it’s no wonder the PRS SE A50E is a tremendous acoustic electric guitar. Other brands like Ibanez make great hollow body models as well, like the guitar we feature in our Ibanez PC15 review.

The signature PRS fretboard inlays and headstock designs give this acoustic guitar a look and feel that is a joy to hold and play.  While the tone of this guitar is not as bold as say a Taylor acoustic guitar, there is no mistaking the beauty in craftsmanship and the organic bright tone that it sings. And if the bright tone isn’t your thing but you’re after a vintage tone, the guitar in our Gretsch Honey Dipper review has that throwback tone instead.

PROS
  • It's a very light weight acoustic guitar
  • The electronics are definitely up the the high standards of what you would expect from a PRS guitar
CONS
  • Some people like something that feels a little more solid
  • It's kind of built to make use of the electronics in the respect that as a pure acoustic it isn't the loudest guitar.
  • It plays out as a strength when using the electronics but if you want a loud acoustic guitar with bold tone this one is more subtle
