The Island Bell 30 inch Baritone D Bass Ukulele is essentially a contrabass although technically it is a baritone D Bass. There is hardly a difference and even in the companies own literature there is an interchange of words.
The Island Bell companies produced a well made Ukulele in a range of sizes. They offer not only the Baritone D Bass but other classic sizes including a Tenor Ukulele, Soprano Ukulele, Sopranino Ukulele, Concert Ukulele and Pineapple Ukulele. The construction of the Island Bell Ukulele comes from a variety of woods that are used intentionally depending on the size and intended tone of the Ukulele.
While they use Koa wood, maple acacia, sapele, spruce and cedar, the 30 Inch Baritone D-Bass Ukulele is made of solid mahogany wood. The fine mahogany body has a distinct contrabass sound that is warm and full. The quality of the construction makes this U-Bass easy to get in tune and keep in tune which is consistent as you go up the guitar neck. The solid mahogany body has an amazing natural reverb that creates a tone that avoids the downfalls of some of the intonation issues that other ukuleles can be challenged with.

Yes! This is a well built bass ukulele. It does a great job of staying in tune and I haven’t heard many issues about string buzz. I mean, any guitar can come out of tune, so it’s not permanently tuned, but it’s solid.
