Amongst the best keyboards, the portable organ has a unique sound different from even the best digital pianos.

The organ has to be one of the oldest instruments. There are still playable organs, specifically pipe organs, that were built in the 1400’s and are still playable today.

Of course, what has made the organ a part of modern pop culture is the recognizable rock and jazz tones that are found in organs like the Hammond B3 and Leslie Combo famously used by Jimmy Smith and John and Joey DeFrancesco and the Vox Continental Combo Organ that was part of the signature sound of The Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek.

If you are looking for a portable Hammond B3 with some nice additional tones built in for live performances, this is a great option.  It has more authentic organ and even harpsichord tones that it’s comparable Nord C2, though the Nord C2 is also a fine instrument.  I would highly suggest this for the touring musician that doesn’t want to lug around a full vintage B3 and Leslie.

If you are looking for the Hammond B3 sound but you either don’t want to spend the high price for the authentic vintage instrument or you are looking for a more portable version of the instrument, the Nord C2D is an excellent option.  It is comparable to the Hammond SK2 Portable Organ.
